MWC launches / ARM processor focus TSMC benefits

Mobile Communications World Congress (MWC) launched on the 14th, four-core ARM processors in tablet PCs will be the focus, TSMC mastered this wave of ARM-based tablet devices, as well as smart phone OEMs, became the support of the second quarter The main momentum of performance growth.

Following the debut of more than a hundred flat-panel devices at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January, more flat-panel products will appear on the MWC show floor.

The research firm Linley Group expects that MWC will see quad-core ARM processors for tablets, including Nvidia's Tegra 3, and Freescale's quad-core i. MX series processors; these chips will be listed one after another.

Major chip makers such as Nvidia, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments (TI) have cut into the mobile device market with ARM's core processors in recent years. Most of these companies have placed orders with TSMC's 40-nanometer manufacturing process. Mobile devices such as computers and smart phones will be launched in the second quarter of this year, which will continue to put TSMC's advanced manufacturing capacity into tighter control.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. chairman Zhang Zhongmou said last quarter, said that this year's production capacity will still be in short supply, mobile computing (Mobile Computing) has become the mainstream, optimistic about the future of smart phones and tablet computers.

TSMC estimates that smartphone shipments this year will reach 420 million, up 25% from last year. Zhang Zhongmou said that although there are only 40 million tablet PCs shipped this year, there will be explosive growth in the second half of the year and it will go all the way to 2012.

TSMC expects that this year's revenue can still grow by 20% compared with last year. The off-season is not thin this quarter, and the quarterly revenue is down 2% to 4%. Foreign analysts expect that after the second quarter of TSMC, driven by mobile devices, double-digit revenue will be generated for each quarter.

After the CES, MWC was the second major communications show in the IT industry. Analysts expect that more FP devices will appear on the MWC. The research organization Forward Concepts emphasized that MWC visitors are mainly business people in the communications industry. Therefore, the MWC's flat panel devices may be products that are biased toward the future.
